The Gainsborough Charles Baines Community Primary School

Together we achieve

British Values

At Charles Baines, we actively promote British Values to ensure our pupils leave school fully prepared for life in modern Britain.

British Values are a core part of our daily life in the classroom at Charles Baines, with a key focus on one value each half term. This is embedded through assemblies, Religious Education, PSHE, our School Council, playtimes and after school clubs.

We encourage children to learn in environments which are free from discrimination, intolerance and hate.

The Key Values are:

- Democracy

- Rule of Law

- Individual Liberty

- Mutual Respect

- Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.

Democracy at Charles Baines:

  • Pupils have the opportunity to have their voices heard within our School Council that allows democratic conversations to take place and influence decisions made in school.
  • Our curriculum is based around key questions that influence learning and allow our pupils to make decisions.
  • Weekly assemblies that focus on current events in the world that allow children to understand democracy.

Rule of Law at Charles Baines:

  • Pupils follow a clear PSHE program that has clear links with the local community.
  • Assemblies that focus on the law through safety awareness.
  • Pupils are taught lessons which have links to the expectations of society, the importance of the law and following rules and how the law is there to protect us.

Individual Liberty at Charles Baines:

  • School aims, values and ethos clearly embedded across school.
  • Pupils have key roles and responsibilities, including School Council and Energy Monitors.
  • Pupils are actively encouraged to make choices and take responsibility for themselves in a supportive, secure and safe environment.

Mutual Respect at Charles Baines:

  • Weekly assemblies that focus on values and pride, including what we have achieved collectively as individuals and celebrating success.
  • Sports activities that promote fairness and equality.
  • Development of good relationships between staff and pupils.

Tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs at Charles Baines:

  • Religious Education is taught through a broad and balanced curriculum focused on a range of faiths, religions and cultures.
  • We ensure that pupils have the opportunity to learn about different place of worship.
  • Assemblies are planned to give pupils opportunity to reflect on a variety of beliefs, cultures and moral values.
